A complete healing of the whole person uses the mind to affect the body encompassing a variety of techniques as well as bodily awareness and movement designed to enhance the thought process. Some techniques that were considered as alternative medicine in the past have become main-stream. For example, counseling, support groups, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy. Alternative therapies also include the use of creative outlets such as art, music, or dance. Other mind-body techniques include meditation - a conscious mental process using certain techniques - such as focusing attention or maintaining a specific posture. This is to suspend the stream of thoughts and relax the body and mind. From a religious perspective one may also consider prayer as a therapy.
A holistic approach to body mind healing must also include the spirit.
